  • Papers on Wildlife Conservation
The purpose of this site is to provide a discussion of political and policy issues concerning wildlife on a worldwide basis.  These discussions certain could involve endangered species but extends to any case where wildlife enter into political and policy discussions.  For example, deer are not an endangered species in the U.S. but they may become the subject of intense politics due to being perceived by some as a nuisance (e.g., eating flowers, causing accidents) and thus debates on whether and how to reduce their numbers may ensue.  Likewise, discussions of invasive species and ethical concerns as well as hunting, angling, and ecotourism would be relevant.  The relationship between science and wildlife politics is also important since “the best available science” is supposed to be employed in making decisions about wildlife according to international agreements (e.g., CITES),  the International Whaling Commission, and the U.S. Endangered Species Act.

The site has a blog that I hope will be used to report cases where wildlife have become the subject of political debate and public policy.  It can also be used to report on articles from news media, journals, books, reports, and other media that concern wildlife and politics. Indeed, I have begun the blog by posting more than 40 posts on wildlife issues that I encourage you to read and comment.

Thirdly, the site will be used in the future for a book that I am publishing titled “Wildlife Politics.”  It is scheduled for publication during the Spring of 2017.  It covers wildlife politics in over 50 countries and more than 45 different species. I will be posting discussion questions based on the book on this site in the near future.
Please contact me if you have any comments or suggestions concerning the website.
